Lumostage is proud to announce an incredible new addition to our virtual production toolkit: Canada’s only standing INT. SUBWAY TRAIN film set, now available for filming at our Langley studio.

This one-of-a-kind set began its journey as a decommissioned Translink Mark I SkyTrain car. Working closely with some of British Columbia’s finest FX engineers and set designers, Lumostage transformed the Skytrain car into a remarkably authentic New York-style subway train — built with the versatility and detail demanded by today’s film, television, and commercial productions.

“Filming subway scenes has always been a challenge in British Columbia,” said Lumostage Co-Founder Angus Luk-Ramsay. “Until now, productions had to build a temporary set or endure weeks of permit headaches to film on an active Skytrain platform. Having a standing subway train set solves a major location problem and makes British Columbia an even more attractive destination for global film production.”

How does Lumostage help filmmakers achieve realistic motion on the subway train set? By placing the train into the LED volume and projecting subway tunnel plates created by our partners at Sim-Plates

Additionally, Lumostage worked with longtime VFX collaborator Render Imagination to update our virtual subway station in Unreal Engine. Together, the subway train, dynamic tunnel plates, and 3D station environment form a complete suite of subway location solutions – available exclusively at Lumostage.

The first production to film on our new subway train goes to camera in October 2025, and we’re excited to see the results onscreen.

Lumostage extends our sincere thanks to the wonderful team at TransLink for their partnership and support in repurposing the decommissioned Skytrain and furthering the capabilities of the British Columbia film production industry.
